Some songs make us reminisce, so we take it all in. Music is not just limited to the melodies and arrangements we hear, it invokes emotions of times of old without you even trying
That’s the beauty of music. That’s the magic in music.

Tribute to Abdullah Ibrahim: A Legacy That Will Endure
15 June 2026
Today, we mourn the passing of a true South African and global music legend, Abdullah Ibrahim, on the eve of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the June 16, 1976, Soweto Uprising.
In 1976, Mr Ibrahim released two notable albums, Black Lightning and Banyana – Children of Africa. Banyana, also known as The Children of Africa, is widely regarded as one of his most significant studio releases of that period. The album featured a piano trio comprising Abdullah Ibrahim (piano), Cecil McBee (bass), and Roy Brooks (drums).
These albums were released during a pivotal period in South African history. The events surrounding the Soweto Uprising profoundly influenced Ibrahim’s artistic expression and reinforced his commitment to using music as a vehicle for cultural identity, resistance, and hope.
As Wowos Music Club, we bid farewell to a musical giant whose legacy will continue to inspire generations worldwide. May you rest in power.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Ibrahim family, friends, colleagues, and admirers during this difficult time.
With heartfelt condolences,
Wonga Ntshinga
